Oat Milk Recipe

Oat Milk Recipe

For those of you who have never heard of out milk before this post, have no worries. Yes, this idea of blending oats until they form into a milk has been around for a while, but it was not really made popular until these past few months when Oatly, a Swedish oat milk brand, began making its way into American coffee shops. This milk substitute is truly trending for a reason. It's dairy-free, nut-free, soy-free, nutrient-rich, AND environmentally friendly as the major ingredients are simply oats and water. Although I cannot boast that this recipe is anything close to Oatly, it is indeed is an extremely rich, creamy, and inexpensive homemade option. To make things better, the oats are able to be ground so finely that you do not really even need to strain the pulp as you have to do with most homemade nut milks.  This little milk-substitute is so simple and can be whipped up in just a few minutes - perfect for when you want to add a little something extra to your coffee or when you realize you're out of milk as soon as you've just poured you cereal.

Recipe

Yields: 2 cups; Materials needed: blender

1 cup oats (steel-cut or instant both work)

2.5 cups of water

1 tsp vanilla extract

Dash of cinnamon

Directions

1.) Blend the oats and water together. If using a lower power blender, let blend for 60-90 seconds, if using a high-power blender, set on the highest setting and blend for about 45 seconds or until the consistency is smooth.

2.) Pause the blender and ensure that the milk has reached the desired texture. Add more water or some more oats if needed.

3.) Add the cinnamon and vanilla. Blend for a few more seconds and you're good to go!

*If your oat milk is still too gritty after you have blended it for a bit, simply strain it over a cheese cloth covered bowl to ensure that there is no pulp.

*If your oat milk thickens in the fridge overnight, simply re-blend for a few seconds before using again.

Hope you all enjoy :)
