The Belltower Artisans Coffee Shop (Memphis, TN)
The Belltower Artisans is a small coffee shop and pottery studio owned by two college students that reopened on The Highland Strip in November after being located within Minglewood Hall this past summer. With its cozy seating options and close proximity to the University of Memphis, this shop has quickly become a popular study and hangout spot. This little space is complete with great coffee served in house-made mugs as well as a full-blown pottery studio with membership options and individual classes throughout the week. While it is popular among mostly college kids because of its location, it's definitely a welcoming space for people of any age wanting to curl up with a book, chat over coffee with a friend, or even create their own piece of pottery. Whether you decide to attend a class or simply stop by to study, I hope you enjoy this new little Memphis hangout.
While the year-round drink menu is simple, it is sure to have everything you'd want. In accordance with the "artisan" vibe, this coffee shop supports local companies like My Cup of Tea and J. Brooks coffee in providing their coffee and tea. Not only are these locally-sourced drinks delicious, but they are made even better by being served in beautiful mugs created in their pottery studio. In addition to the year-round menu, they also have a few "treat-yo-self" winter specials including The Frenchy (a hazelnut vanilla latte; pictured above), The Snow Day (white chocolate and bourbon caramel latte), and The Bonfire (dark chocolate mocha with toasted marshmallows and crushed graham cracker on top). In addition to these crazy-good drinks, they also have some freshly baked goods to munch upon during your stay.
The Belltower Artisans was created as a space where people could enjoy and create as a community. With weekly group pottery classes on Saturdays, monthly memberships to their studio, and even fun-themed classes where you can make succulent pots for spring or make some mugs while 'The Office' plays in the background, this place makes it easier to bring people together through art. Even if you don’t have the time to take a class, you can still stop in and check out some of their pottery for sale. While the artistic aspects of this spot make it unique within the city, the comfy couches and chill atmosphere also make it the perfect destination for anyone simply wanting to study or relax. Not to mention, it is open until 9pm Monday through Saturday and 8 pm on Sunday, giving all East Memphis and Midtown folks a study spot open a little later than most. Although primarily frequented by college students now, I am certain that as word gets out about this place, it will soon be a highlight of Memphis' coffee and creative scenes.
