Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document restaurants, health tidbits, recipes, and travels. Enjoy!

Global Cafe (Memphis, TN)

Global Cafe (Memphis, TN)

Global Cafe is a fantastic and relatively new addition to the restaurant scene in Memphis. Because it is in close proximity to Rhodes and it also take Rhodes meal points, this place has become quite a “go to” for me over the last few months. Started by three immigrants/ refugees, this spot features exceptionally authentic dishes from Sudan, Nepal, and Syria. This restaurant is located within the Crosstown Concourse and does an incredible job at offering satisfying and delicious dishes for very affordable prices.

The fast-casual style of the restaurant is very conducive to the fast-paced lifestyle of many of those working within the Concourse. Essentially, you go up to one or multiple of the different sections for the cuisine styles (Syrian, Nepalese, or Sudanese) and order a dish or two. Most of it will already have been prepped within the past hour or so and a couple of the menu items, such as the falafel, will be cooked right in front of you. After that, you just pay at the front and can either eat the food there or take it to-go. The transparency that comes from the open set-up of the kitchen makes it apparent that everything going into the food here is fresh and authentic.

The fact that this spot has so many meatless options is so incredible, especially considering most places in Memphis do not have a ton. My favorite thing on the menu is most definitely the falafel and hummus. It includes four falafels that are perfectly crispy and seasoned as well as a thin hummus that you use as a dipping sauce. This falafel with the tabouli salad makes a perfect meal. As far as side items go, I also really love the veggie dumplings and the rice-stuffed grape leaves. If wanting something on the more filling side, the chow mein will not let you down. It is essentially a noodle stir-fry with veggies on top - it just can’t get better than that. Also, this spot always has a delightful vegan soup of the day.

Although I have probably been to Global Cafe more than any other restaurant lately (again, thank you Rhodes meal points), I feel like I have not even scratched the surface of the dishes available here. Global Cafe sets the bar extremely high for international cuisine here in Memphis and I can’t wait to see how this place grows and develops, especially as it is located in the bustling Crosstown Concourse. If wanting to try something delicious and new, Global Cafe is the perfect place to stop.
