Day Trip Guide: Little Rock, Arkansas

Day Trip Guide: Little Rock, Arkansas

After hearing about the cool hiking in Little Rock, Arkansas, a few friends and I decided to take a little trip to the city, stopping at a couple of restaurants along the way. Just two hours outside of Memphis, Little Rock is the perfect destination for a foodie and nature filled day trip. Whether you are planning to go to Little Rock or just planning a day trip in general, I hope this post gives you some ideas of things to do!

Mylo Coffee Company

This little coffee shop is the perfect destination for a chill morning. With amazing coffee, freshly baked goods, and plenty of tables, it is truly a gem found in the Hillcrest area of Little Rock. While most of the breakfast items are neither vegan nor gluten-free, a majority of the options are vegetarian. One non-vegetarian yet very interesting baked good is called the "hen in a nest" made of a cornbread muffin with sausage, gruyere, and an entire soft boiled egg in the middle. As far as coffee goes, if you are wanting a specialty latte, I would recommend the Rosewater Latte. Made with rosewater, it has a subtle, floral taste to it that, interestingly enough, works very well with the espresso. If you are a fan of the trendy lavender latte, I would definitely suggest you give this rosewater one a try. Overall, I found Mylo to be a great place to just relax and chat with friends for the morning over a cup of coffee.

Hiking

Just outside of downtown Little Rock, you will find lots of amazing hiking and outdoor activities. Pinnacle Mountain Park, our main destination for this road trip, provided us with a wide array of trails each with various difficulty levels. While we definitely (and honestly, accidentally) challenged ourselves by choosing the West Summit Trail, the view at the top - despite the fog - was very much worth the boulder patch climb. This trail is perfect for a day trip because although it typically only takes an hour and a half to complete, it will leave you feeling accomplished and hungry for a big lunch.

The Fold

The Fold is a cool Tex-Mex spot in a restaurant-filled area of Little Rock. It has a great, fun vibe - perfect for a post-hike feast. The menu is filled with tacos, salads, and burritos that will be sure to please everyone in a large group. The guac and chips is a must-get appetizer and is great to split among a group. For both vegans and non-vegans alike, I would definitely recommend the hearts of palm taco (pictured above) as it is both flavorful and filling. Another highlight of the meal was the the beet salad (pictured above as well). This salad is well-worth the $9 with enough fresh veggies to split among two people. After a day of exploring the sights and tastes of Little Rock, The Fold made for the perfectly filling meal before journeying back home.

Although I only spent half a day in Little Rock, Arkansas, I felt that I got a good feel for the city simply by experiencing its restaurants and natural treasures. If ever searching for a daylong getaway or a chance to spend time with friends during this new year, I guarantee that a road trip to city of Little Rock will not disappoint.
